Would like to plan a weekend getaway along the east coast. Somewhere we could drive to in a day from the Louisville area. Would like to be in a quaint coastal town, with shopping and some great simple places to eat. Never been to the east coast and would love any suggestions, would love to try and go this month. Thanks!

Both are a relatively long drive (600+ miles), but Holden Beach (NC) or Edisto Island (SC) seem like they could fit the bill. Holden Beach is having its annual NC Festival by the Sea this October, a great time to taste the authentic flavors of such coastal towns outside the hectic summer season.
