St. John is a very easy place to get around without your own car, though you might consider a rental for a day or two to explore on your own. Otherwise, hop one of the many taxis that ply the island, an easy and fun way to get around, not to mention meet some of the locals. There are a few limited bus services, plus plenty of hiking trails through 7,000-acre Virgin Islands National Park (http://gorp.away.com/gorp/resource/us_national_park/vi_virgi.htm), which covers almost half of the island.
