with one day in the Azores (cruise ship) what would be the best. An all day tour or 1/2 day tour. Does the port dock where there are things to see & do on your own? Is there reliable taxi transporation?

It depends on how much time you have to explore while the ship is docked - if you have the time I think an all-day tour would be the better choice. As for things to do, check with the cruise line for activities in the places you stop by - they always have suggestions!
