I tapped Away.com's family travel expert, Christine Loomis, for help with your questions. Here's what she wrote: "Without question Mexico's best water parks are Xel-ha and Xcaret, both on the Riviera Maya between Playa del Carmen and Tulum, 45 minutes to an hour south of Cancun. These combine manmade and natural features. Both offer dolphin swims, "snuba," snorkeling, and swimming. Xcaret has an eco- and archaeological component and fun swimming along an underground river. At Xel-ha you can kayak, too, and there's an aquarium or "seaquarium." Xcaret's lagoon is like something out of a tropical movie set. If you're looking for more traditional water parks, Puerto Vallarta has Splash and Mazatlan has MazAgua, both with water slides, lazy rivers, pools, etc. Splash also has a few "bungalows" in which families can actually stay, right inside the park. In terms of other places with dolphin encounters, Mexico is chock full of those for that sort of ultimate water park experience: Ixtapa and Cabo both have them, so does Isla Mujeres, and Cozumel offers them at Chankanaab, the wonderful national park on the island.
