Being from Nova Scotia I would recommend summer or fall. Weather is really unpredictable year round but much more likely to hit good weather in summer or fall. It is beautiful any time of year but its at its best at these 2 times. July is also usually better than August. In recent years though with global warming temps are all over the board. You won't find a prettier place or nicer people with the possible exception of PEI.

Honestly (and forgive me if this sounds like a blurb from the tourism board), but any of the seasons will have their own charm: fall = beautiful colors, oceanscapes; winter = peaceful snowy scenes, frozen rivers, no crowds; spring = wildflowers and bracing seashore hikes; summer = speaks for itself.
