What's the best South American country to visit?

I like off-the-beaten-path travel and was thinking about Uruguay for next winter. Anyone been there or have other suggestions for places to visit?

Hi Pieter,

The most beautiful country to visit in South America is Argentina. It’s a huge land which is quite different from the rest of the South America like as a language to the geography. You will be stunned by the vibrant city nightlife, delicious foods and incredible sceneries.

For the best comfortable and safe tour for South America, it can be beneficial to secure the services of travel agency that is highly experienced in this field. Don’t depend on advertisement as they are unable to help you in the right direction. If you are unable to get referral, look http://www.koshertravelers.com/tours/southamerica/default.asp as they are international travel specialist, having very experienced staff providing 24 hours customer services.

Each country has its own treasure. From my experience I can tell:

- You can go to Brazil and enjoy being at the beach, the best time to go there is in carnival. There are also really nice places to visit, at least on Rio do Janeiro. In Brazil you will find warm water in the North. Uruguay, Argentina and Chile seas are cold.
- If you like testing wine or go skiing you may want to visit Argentina in winter (South hemisphere) . Mendoza is well know by it wines and you can go skiing to Las Leñas
- Peru has some nice places for sight seen but the cites are very not clean

I haven't been to Uruguay, but my brother-in-law, his wife, & two little girls LOVE IT. They go a few times a year and are actually building a house there. From what they've told me, get ready for some truck-bed transportation though. But it should be cheap and pretty laid back.
I've also had 2 friends backpack in Chile. They liked that they could be at the beach in the morning and with a short drive go skiing in the afternoon. My buddy Nick who did a study abroad (& actually just stayed forever) in Santiago, loves the nightlife, the culture/music/art and said the vineyard tours were awesome.
