What outdoor attractions around Medford Lakes NJ
I am planning a trip to the Medford Lakes area in new Jersey and wish to go walking, kayaking, cycling (with rental of bikes) and anything else you may suggest. To take place July 2012 can anyone steer me in the right direction?

Hi Lee, Medford Lakes is on the doorstep of Wharton State Forest, which offers 500 miles of trails that meander through cedar swamps, bogs, and pine heaths. The habitat here is home to wildlife including bald eagles, ospreys, great blue herons, owls, swans, and hummingbirds. Some ideas for activities include hiking the 50-mile Batona Trail, one of the Garden State's best-kept secrets that winds through three New Jersey state parks and plenty of boggy, piney wilderness. Wharton also includes 155 miles of streams and rivers that flow through the famous Pine Barrens of southern New Jersey; the best paddling is along the Oswego, Wading, and Batsto rivers, where you can camp overnight (permit required). There's also 30 miles of sand-packed roads and some singletrack, including a fun five-mile beginner's loop and a short kids' starter trail. Check in with the Jersey Action Riders, a local riding club that organizes regular rides plus can help you with info on trail conditions and where to rent gear if you need it.
