You don't have to look far to find winter activities in the Calgary area, Laura. For starters, check out the Calgary Outdoor Centre (http://www.calgaryoutdoorcentre.ca/) for info on winter activities including guided snowshoe hikes, cross-country skiing lessons, ice climbing, and more. The city's Canada Olympic Park offers snowboarding and skiing (including Canada's only superpipe within city limits!), plus other activities including ice skating, cross-country skiing, and bobsleigh rides. Of course, Calgary is the gateway to the Rockies and some of the continent's best skiing up around Banff and Lake Louise (here's a roundup I wrote recently for Away.com: http://blogs.away.com/travel/2012/12/best-alberta-canada-ski-resorts.html). One last winter excursion to consider is a dog-sledding tour with an outfitter like Howling Dog Tours (http://www.howlingdogtours.com/). Hope this helps. Have fun out there!
