August is probably my favorite month in Steamboat because there is so much to do. In town you can tube down the Yampa River or swim in the swimming hole by our library. You can bike along the bike path and go for a stroll through the Botanical Gardens. You can hike up Emerald Mountain, go on a guided horseback ride, mountain bike the single track or take the chair lift up and come back down by riding the Alpine Slide. Or take the Gondola up the big mountain and have lunch on the terrace overlooking the valley below. Canoe at Pearl Lake, sail at Stagecoach and waterski at Steamboat Lake. Soak at the hot springs, window shop along main street, dance at the free concerts, watch a softball game, have one of the Rio's famous margaritas on their rooftop. Marvel at the ski jumpers training on the jumps at Howelsen Hill and thank the heavens that you've discovered such a very cool place!
