Head over to Cumberland Island National Seashore, where you'll find saltwater marshes, mud flats, tidal creeks, maritime forests, white-sand beaches, and dunes. The island, three miles wide and 18 miles long, is a bit larger than Manhattan. It is a lot less crowded too: Cumberland Island limits visitation to 300 people per day. You must make a six-month advance reservation to gain access to the island. The island can be accessed by a 45-minute ferry ride that departs from St. Mary's, Georgia.
