September's "Zozobra" event is really, really interesting. I'd say any time in the fall, since it's not as crowded and the whole place smells like delicious roasted green chiles. The weather can be anywhere from the 30s to the 60s, but it's never bitter cold. A small fire in your adobe is more than enough warmth that time of year. Christmas is also really nice: they put up farolitos (think paper lunch bags with candles in them) on the rooftops. Summer is the most popular time. July 4th weekend is hot and crowded.

Well it all depends on what you plan on doing. If you want to ski or snowboard, I would recommend going sometime in December or January. September is a good time to go if you want to beat the high season and high costs of hotels. But, if money isn't a problem for you, August would be a good time to visit Santa Fe's Indian Market (http://www.swaia.org/), held on the third weekend of August every year. If you plan on going in August, I suggest you book your accommodations immediately!
