Couldn't find any mention of trees that fell in Big Basin Redwoods SP, but there was the pair of fused sequoias that toppled in Giant Sequoia National Monument last September. Perhaps you were thinking about this incident? (Watch an NBC segment on it here: http://on.msnbc.com/tOGhuU, including video footage of exact moment the trees fell.) I don't think any decision has been taken about what to do with the trees, which lie across the popular Trail of the 100 Giants, although some suggestions include carving a hole through it to make a tunnel, turning the wood into firework, or leaving it be to let people experience to the true majesty of these 1,500-year-old giants. My vote goes for the latter!
