Gino's pizza for deep dish. The Berghoff is my favorite: old school German place with dark interior, great beers and hearty food. Billy Goat Tavern is worth a stop for tourists -- it was the setting for John Belushi's famous "cheezborger" skit on SNL.

Sable in the Kimpton Palomar at State and Grand--eclectic menu, great hand mixed cocktails and bar area, out of this world flatbreads (try the forest mushroom). Girl and the Goat is so hot you can't get a table for 3 months---without just hanging out at the bar waiting for an opening. For special occasions-Lobby Restaraunt at the Peninsula with special weekend late night chocolate bar. Hot new italian--RPM. Don't forget to stop at Garrett's Popcorn on Ontario at Michigan for fresh camelcorn

The Vermilion, just across the river on W. Hubard St. is a safe bet. Good Latin-Asian fusion food. The homey Mia Francesca is a hidden gem located a few blocks south of Wrigley Field. The dining area is small with tables set close together, so call for a reservation (ask for patio seating). Prices are moderate compared to the quality and quantity of the food -- any freshly made ravioli specials are a must-try. Heaven on Seven is a Cajun joint on the seventh floor of an unassuming office tower that does everything from gumbo to po’ boy sandwiches. If you're looking for a good beer join, I'd head up to The Map Room in Bucktown/Wicker Park, which offers back issues of National Geographic to peruse while you're traveling the world in beer.
