We live in the Poconos and usually go to Brigantine Island or Ocean Grove during the summer. We didn't plan a vacation this year and now we would like to go the Jersey shore for a few days. What is the closest, family type beach with inexpensive hotels for us to take our daughter and our three little grand daughters for two nights?

Going purely on geography, you might take a look at northern Jersey Shore towns like Highlands or Monmouth Beach, which will put you close to some nice stretches of sand at Sandy Hook and Long Branch. You can find some useful info and listings at: http://bit.ly/cj8fOa
