We have several hours (10am-3pm) in San Francisco with 5 & 8 y.o. daughters next week. We'll be on our way to Sausalito from visiting in the Bay Area having come from Washington DC. Any suggestions about how to see what in the most efficient manner? If a tour makes sense, is there one best for little kids?

Check out the Fortune Cookie Factory in China Town. It's down a small alley but pretty easy to find. It's a very quick tour but fun and you get free samples of the "messed up" cookies - yum!

Jody, I'd just head down to Fisherman's Wharf and get to know the lay of the land and enjoy the shops and restaurants there. You might be able to squeeze in a tour of Alcatraz, though I think that may be pushing it. Another option might be the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, which has some interesting exhibits as well as expansive grounds where you can all relax for a few hours.
