We have several families who have daughters that are high school seniors this year and have younger brothers who are 13. We normally do a relaxing beach trip for spring break but this year we want lots of fun and excitment to celebrate the girls senior year. The question is cruise? If so, which one? Or, do we do a resort instead? If so, where? Like to stay under $6,000 for a family of 4 for the week. Thoughts?

my vote is for the cruise. We like Royal Caribbean (have also been on Carnival, Princess, and Sunquest) Freedom of the Seas. There was a climbing wall, water surfing, ice skating rink, movie theater, and lots of kid friendly activities. You should be able to stay under your budget, and the great thing about the cruise is that all your food is included. Shore excursions would be your biggest added expense, but you can always pick less expensive things to do, or just get off the ship in port and walk around the port area (usually shops nearby).

I'm assuming flying's out? Costa Rica would be a really fun adventure for all ages. Another cool spot would be Chaa Creek in Belize. For lots more resort options, browse the picks in Away.com's new Resorts & Lodges Guide at: http://away.com/bestresorts. I'm sure a cruise would be fun, something where you can anticipate costs a bit, but personally I'd go the resort route and find somewhere really cool in the Caribbean or Central America. Make it a trip to remember!
