We are trying to plan a week-end away for our 40th wedding anniversary. I live near Cincinnati, Ohio and would like to go no farther than 2 to 3 hours away. I would love to have something over look the river and also have something to do during the day. Don't want any casino's. Would love to see historic things.

The land between the lakes, in SW Kentucky is ideal for views of "the river" (in this case either the Cumberland or the Tennesee) Both the LBL and Paducah are historic sites worth visiting. Lots of things to do and beautiful vistas, active river activities to watch or share in.

I think Natural Bridge State Park near Rosslyn, KY, will be ideal. It's a little over two hours south of Cincinnati. The park features a lodge overlooking a lake, plus 11 more private cabins hidden away in the woods, close to the river. There are ten hiking trails here, ranging from one mile to seven miles in length, and which will take you past a number of unique rock formations and geological features.
