We are traveling from close to the Houston area in TX to Joliet, IL., then from there we are traveling down to Jackson MS. Are there any scenic routes we can drive these 2 directions? Thank you

Wow, long road trip. That's about 1,000 miles in one direction, so I can certainly appreciate your desire for some scenery to break up those road miles! Luckily, you'll be skirting some of the most scenic parts of Arkansas and Missouri, which occupy the Ozark Plateau and the sprawling forestlands of Ouachita, Ozark, and Mark Twain national forests. I'd swing a left just before Little Rock, to check out the little town of Hot Springs, AR. Head north from there to discover the beautiful and wild canyons of the Buffalo National River corridor. Great hiking and scenery here! You could also try the lakes around Branson, MO. The Ozark National Scenic Riverway is a bit closer to the I-55/57 corridor. On your way home through Jackson, you might consider a detour down the scenic Natchez Trace Parkway, which runs in a southwesterly direction from near Nashville to Jackson. Check out outdoor recreation site GORP.com for loads of great recommendations for things to do in the places I mention above: http://bit.ly/grk1nA
