Nothing like the Cape in summer. Hyannis and Hyannisport have a number of good beaches and restaurants, but it's also a great launching point for day trips. Take a tour of the dunes or head up to Provincetown. If you want a more involved trip, there's a high-speed ferry that leaves from the Hyannis dock to Martha's Vineyard. Once there, you can use the island's excellent bus system to head from Oak Bluffs to the less crowded Edgartown.

Hate to say it, but that's a lot of traveling for just a long weekend. Loads to do on the lower Cape, much of it revolving around the beach and water! My advice would be not to plan too much and take things as they come depending on the weather, moods on the day. Beyond the seaside attractions in Hyannis and the neighboring towns of South and West Yarmouth, you've also got day trips to Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard, plus you should try get up to Cape Cod National Seashore for a half- or full-day.
