We are planning a trip to Northern California. We would like to know the "must sees" in this area. We are not interested in Theme Parks. We will be renting a car and fly into San Frqancisco.

Don't miss the coast in Mendocino county near the towns of Mendocino and Fort Bragg. These are great old fishing and lumber villages and the coast is majestic! This is not a real populated area and I like the winters best as there is less fog and less tourists and the waves from the winter storms are clashing against the rocky bluffs like a fireworks show!
We go there and dive for abalone a lot and spear fish. You can read some fun articles on this if you want at http://www.fishnfools.com

San Francisco itself is worth a couple of days. Just north of SF is Point Reyes National Seashore, a good place to pull over a have a picnic on your way north. If you like wine, you should head to wine country (Sonoma, Napa, Healdsburg). Further up the coast is Humbolt Bay and Arcata Bay, both places for great seafood (not that you'll have any shortage of that in Cali). And even further up is Redwood National Park, a must for experiencing some of the tallest trees on earth.
