We are planning a trip to California/Oregon the 3rd week in October. We love to visit Crater Lake but we hesitate as the lodge is already closed a week before our visit. How feasible is it to visit Crater Lake in late October? Thanks!

Crater Lake is OPEN year Round. The Crater Lake lodging and the Dinning stop early to allow enought time to close up properly.
October is a delight full color experience! Many guests come to see the fall spectrum. We actually have a returning group of Photographers staying with us to gather the ambient light of fall.
The snow level is not usually a problem.
Places to stay and eat - The best is Prospect Historic Hotel Motel and Dinner House. The closest to Crater Lake. Bed and Breakfast Inn or Modern Motel with an excellant
Dinner HOuse and a good cafe right next door. www.prospecthotel.com

I don't think you'll be socked in by snow or bad weather, per se. These lodges typically close up for the season as visitor numbers dwindle, rather than for any other reason. Some roads and facilities may be closed for winter, but generally you should be able to get around. Check with the park ahead of time just to confirm actual conditions on the ground before you go, however.
