San Diego Zoo is a one to two day visit because it is so big. Plan to arrive early to see more animals active. Also, the zoo is located in Balboa Park which has many museums to enjoy as well. The Wild Animal Park is in North County so you have to allow about 45 minutes to an hour to get there. Once there, you'll want to take the ride through the park. A fun thing to do is schedule a 'behind the scenes tour' to get closer to the wildlife. Giraffes will eat out of your hand! See the zoo first; then the Wild Animal Park. We only last half a day there because of the long ride to and from the Wild Animal Park unless you do one of the special tours, then a whole day will be needed. I've enjoyed these parks with my children for many years and now take my grandchildren to them. The Zoo remains my favorite of the two venues. Have fun on your visit!!!

Honestly, you need at least a day to do the zoo properly and another to see the animal park. Have fun!

While these are sister attractions, the San Diego Zoo and Wild Animal Park are not located side-by-side, so probably not practical to do in the same day. The zoo is downtown in Balboa Park, so probably a half-day option, while the Wild Animal Park is 30 miles north of town near Escondido, so more of a day trip.
