We are interested in flying into SD - visiting Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse and traveling on by car to Yellowstone in a week and flying out of Jackson Hole; anyone ever traveled this route or has any advice? Activities to include: horseback trail ride, kayak, biking, hot springs indulgence - or any other suggestions?

Hi Larry,
I did a similar trip quite a few years ago. The best part about it is you can come in the northeast boundary of the park, which in my opinion is the most beautiful (the drive over Beartooth Pass, the crags with eagle's nests lining the road). Really nice drive. I'd say plan to spend more time in Yellowstone than the Black Hills. Rushmore and Crazy Horse are OK, but the wilderness of Yellowstone holds much more opportunity. If you're doing it in a week, I'd say 2 days for the black hills and the rest for moving across yellowstone. Be wary of summer time crowds near the center of the park, but the camping on Jenny Lake in summer is top notch. You can find our Yellowstone park guide here: http://vacation.away.com/wyoming/travel-v2-cid9447-yellowstone-national-park-cid400050-parks-and-outdoors-vacations.html
