Train layover in Chicago for 4 hours with 9 and 11 year old boys, what is close? April 16 at 10AM and I want to be back at the station by 1 for a 2:00 departure. We are studying Asia's geography and cultures and the boys like museums. I just don't think a long leisurely lunch would be practical. Any suggestions?

Your best bet is to follow W Adams St (by cab or on foot) east to Grant Park, where you'll find both the stellar Art Institute of Chicago and the city's lovely Millennium Park. The Art Institute has a very good permanent Asian collection that spans 5,000 years and includes 35,000 pieces of art. Better yet, the museum is free for under 12s. Pack a picnic or grab a sandwich on your way over there to enjoy the park, which has lots of green spaces and Anish Kapoor's intriguing Cloud Gate sculpture. Just don't forget to get back to the station in time for your train out! Best, Alistair (Away.com)
