I've heard that the beaches near the port of Veracruz, Mexico are nasty! Are there any nice beaches near the port? is taking a cab a safe thing? will the cab stay with us for the return trip?

I am hoping to sail to Veracruz, Mexico in the fall of 2011. I am seeking information about marinas in the area where I might dock the boat for a few days to allow me to do some some inland travel.
