I've been wanting to drive across the United States for years. Can you recommend a route to take starting near DC, where to stop and what to see on the way? Can I easily do it in less than three weeks, and what should I pack? Do I book hotels or sleep in my car? Is it safe? Bless you if you can answer those. Google is useless on this topic.

Would like to plan a weekend getaway along the east coast. Somewhere we could drive to in a day from the Louisville area. I will be driving my 17-year-old daughter to Fraser, Colorado from Atlanta, Georgia. We would like this to be an adventurous road trip and would like to find great sites/interesting towns to stop and see along the way. Also, I'd like to go there and return on different routes. What do you suggest?

My family desperately needs a vacation! We are wanting to go somewhere mid-July but are are on a somewhat tight budget. At the time we travel, our children will be 2,3,and 4. They absolutely LOVE the beach so we are wanting to take them somewhere that they could enjoy the beach as well as other activities. Just enough to keep them busy and having a good time. They've been to Port Aransas and loved it. We've thought about taking them back to southern CA but wanted to explore other options first. Any ideas? Thank you!!

We are interested in flying into SD - visiting Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse and traveling on by car to Yellowstone in a week and flying out of Jackson Hole; anyone ever traveled this route or has any advice? Activities to include: horseback trail ride, kayak, biking, hot springs indulgence - or any other suggestions?

I am looking for a beach vacation in March 2010. We went to marco island last march and had a great time. We are looking for a new place this year. Age ranges from early to mid 20's but not looking for the typical "spring break" Just a place to relax. Any suggestions. Also we are looking to drive from Illinois and we know it will be a long drive!
