It's not like there's a single road linking these two very varied New England states. Assuming you are sticking to the main interstates, I'd say you're looking at lots of watery attractions along the NH Seacoast (the Portsmouth/I-95 corridor) and up toward Portland, ME, Bar Harbor (including Acadia National Park), and inland toward Bangor, ME (including nearby Baxter State Park and imposing Mount Katahdin). If you're outdoorsy at all, you'll find plenty to do, ranging from sea kayaking to biking to hiking to skiing in winter.
