Destin is decidedly a high-rise and resort destination (not that there's anything wrong with that; I love it), so your best options here include Tops'l Beach & Racquet Resort and Sandestin Golf & Beach Resort. Destin is also home to all of the usual chain hotels, and they are all decent options, but Tops'l and Sandestin are fabulous places. If you decide you want a lower-key vacation, look further down the panhandle at the beach communities along Highway 30-A (Dune Allen, Santa Rosa, Grayton, etc.). You can rent houses or nice condos (just a few levels high, no high-rises in these parts) and enjoy uncrowded beaches.
