Myself and 2 friends are going to drive from Denver to GTNP in late August. We will spend the first night in Jackson. It has been suggested by a GTNP ranger I spoke with that we spend the next night in Colters Bay Village in one of the cabins, then continue the next morning through Yellowstone to our next hotel in West Yellowstone. One of my friends asks, "Why spend the night in Colters Bay?" I dunno, because the ranger suggested it? Does anyone have a better answer, or a better plan? I'd be very appreciative, as I've never been to GT or Yellowstone before.

Coulter Bay is nice, but more like a small town. You might like tenting at Signal Mountain Campground instead. Great views, close to the Tetons, on Jackson Lake. Some bears around the campground, so keep your site clean. Great food in Signal Mountain Lodge. Jackson used to be a really cool town, but now it's too much like Aspen.
