My fiance and I will be traveling around the northeast coast for our honeymoon in July. We want to stop in Martha's Vineyard for a day while in the Boston Area. How far is MVY from Boston, and what are some nice beaches to check out while we are there?

There's a car/passenger ferry that operates between Woods Hole on the mainland and either the Oaks Bluff or Vineyard Haven terminals on Martha's Vineyard. The crossing takes approximately 45 minutes and there's over a dozen daily sailings in the summer months. Prices vary depending on passengers, vehicle type, etc., but it's between $67-$77 per car (one-way) in the summer high season. Visit www.steamshipauthority.com or www.mvy.com for more info (including other points of departure from the mainland like New Bedford and Falmouth). Incidentally, that's quite a long day trip from Boston itself. Consider exploring Cape Cod and/or Martha's Vineyard for a few days before you drive north to Boston.
