My boyfriend and I are planning to drive to Mt Rushmore,SD on June 1,2010 from Chicago,Il. Need someones advise that has been there, as to where to stay (inexpensive but nice) and what to do while there. I have searched the web and there is just too many choices to chose from and now I am confused.We plan on staying there 5 nights and then head up to Wyoming to drive around.

My wife and I have been to the Black Hills about 3 times. We just loved Deadwood. We stayed in the Super 8 Motel and made day trips to Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse Memorial and a MUST see is Bear Country USA on route 16 not far from Mt Rushmore. There is also a lot to do in Deadwood and the hotel was reasonable with indoor pool and slot machines which are fun to play and you don't lose that much. We were lucky and each time won.
