is there a beach on the bay in virginia where my husband and I can bring our dog, thats not too crowded? We are looking for less crowds because even on dog freindly beaches some people are not too happy if you bring a dog.

Virginia Beach located in the Chesapeake Bay is a nice, calm stretch of sand that is dog friendly. They do enforce leash laws and ask that you clean up after your dog. However, dogs are restricted to the north end of the beach from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. Further south is the Resort Beach, which is more crowded. However,if you are seeking true seclusion, about 15 miles south of the Resort Beach is the Sandbridge Beach which is very calm, peaceful and relaxing.

First Landing State Park allows dogs on a leash, but you must carry documentation of your animal's rabies vaccination. The public beaches of Chesapeake Bay also permit pets after 6:00 p.m. and before 10:00 a.m. from Memorial Day to Labor Day. The time restrictions apply to the time of day the beaches are most populated. My experience has been that state parks are less crowded and have the benefit of a structured preservation of the environment.
