If you purchase anything by credit card, be sure to check your "purchases" on your next bill. Someone there copied my credit card number and proceeded to "purchase" over $2,000 worth of merchandise throughout Ven., including a jet ski! They didn't have my credit card, but somebody was passing the information around. Of course, my credit card company didn't pay for these things as they were fraud.

Yes, Margarita Island is perfectly safe for travelers. As with any place, I wouldn't walk around alone at night or after having a lot of drinks. And as a general rule when traveling, leave your expensive jewelry, purses, etc at home.
