It really depends on where you're looking to travel and what you're looking to do. Traveling with a reputable tour operator can really allow you to enjoy your vacation all the while learning about the area from a locals perspective and really getting off the beaten path to discover a particular area. Often times, a tour operator can pair you with a room mate to save costs on lodging or offer a single supplement if you don't want to share a room. I think it really comes down to the quality of the time you're going to have off. Do you want to spend every second wondering where you're going, doing research etc. or do you want to go with a time-tested company that can really allow for you to fully enjoy your travel time? Most tour operators also have built in time for you to discover areas on your own as well so I really think you get the best of both worlds by going with a tour operator. Best of luck in your travel planning!
