I'm looking for a quaint town, within walking distance to the sea, in Cape Cod. I might not have a car and would be dropped off for 3 or 4 days on my own (actually with my husband). We like to visit shops, restaurants, and be near water. Unfortunately, this opportunity will be in mid-February. Any suggestions would be welcome. Thank you.

hAVE YOU CONSIDERED pROVINCE tOWN? (p TOWN) AS IT IS KNOWN BY US NATIVES. iT IS A GAY COMMUNITY, BUT HONESTLY IT'S NOT A PROBLEM, AND IN fEB THE TOWN IS VERY QUIET. tHERE ARE THINGS TO DO AT NIGHT, AND THE TOWN IS SOOOO QUAINT. tHE NMAIN RD COMMERCIAL ST IS ACTUELLY ON THE HARBOR. THE TOWN ITSELF IS LIKE A LITTLE NOOK AND CRANNY, WITH ALL THE SHOPS ON A QUAINT LITTLE STREET. iT'S LIKE A BACK STREET IN PARIS. CHECK OUT SOME PICTURES. HOPE THIS HELPS

Provincetown will give you the biggest range of options, though maybe too big? You could also try Wellfleet, which has a great beach plus range of small-town amenities like cafes, a few restaurants, galleries, etc. A bit further south -- on an inland tidal inlet but not on the coast -- try Orleans, which is a lovely quaint spot with more shops, galleries, eateries, etc. Pretty much everything will be closed down in February, though, so Provincetown might be best bet in terms of amenities that are open throughout the year.
