I'm going to Chicago for the 4th of July (2nd thru 7th), we are going to a cubs game, the U2 concert at soldier field and navy pier for fireworks. What would be the best location / neighborhood to stay in. Also wondering if the navy pier celebrations are good. Thanks

No question that with that itenerary I would stay in The Loop. Numerous hotels (I like the Palmer House Hilton) to suite you and you are in the heart of the downtown in walking distance of the Miracle Mile, Grant Park, Tourist and Cultural Center, Art Museum, Sears Building, and easy transportation to either Wrigley or Soldiers Fields. My advice is do some internet research on both Chicago bus and subway transportation systems as they are very easy to use and inexpensive compared to taxi and limo services. Also a great and safe way to see the city the way Chicagoans see it.

just got back from Chicago and stayed at Residence Inn on 410 N.Dearborn St downtown, it is right in the middle of all three locations and public transit is easy, safe and efficient. The room was only $79 plus crazy amount of hotel taxes (all hotels add this) and the room was clean and new, it had a kitchenette, a queen bed and a comfortable double size pull-out couch with a nice bathroom and separate sink outside bath AND had complimentary breakfast!!! Loads of restaurants and clubs right outside of door or within 10 minute walk. I am going back for Pat's vs Bears fall/winter (TBA) 2010 and I will definitely crash there again for this price, there maybe better but this is what my experience was last weekend
