If traveling in summer where's the cheapest place to stay

It's going to be hard to find any really good savings in the summer, Katy, as this is peak season in Florida. I suppose you could look at rentals a little away from the main beach area to eke out some savings. Take it for what it's worth, but I contacted the St. Pete/Clearwater tourism folks and they also suggested you keep an eye on their "Hot Deals" page for any last-minute offers (http://bit.ly/wXYM1C). Not sure if this is your style, but there are a few RV resorts in the area plus a big KOA campground in St. Pete, which should be a little cheaper, though not that close to the beach. However, if you really do want to camp, I'd recommend Fort De Soto Park, which is in Pinellas County south of St. Petersburg. There's a 238-site family campground here, close to a pristine beach that's won various national awards.
