I will be staying at the Omni Hotel on business, will there be any beaches withing walking distances or that I can reach by public transportation? What other things to see and do without a vehicle from the Omni Hotel?

Carrie McLaren, Visit Jacksonville's Communications Manager, gave us this very detailed and helpful response when we contacted her about your question. Check out the Visit Jacksonville website (www.visitjacksonville.com) for more info on things to see and do in Jacksonville.
While the Beaches area is about a 25- to 30-minute ride from Downtown, public bus transportation is available. I would suggest checking out the Jacksonville Transportation Authority's website at www.jtaonthemove.com for routes and bus times. Downtown Jacksonville is a very pedestrian-friendly destination with great hotels, museums, shopping, restaurants, and performing art venues all within walking distance of each other. One great thing about our Downtown is the unique transportation opportunities. The St. Johns River runs through the middle of Downtown and we have water taxis available connecting the North and Southbank riverfronts. Both Downtown bridges have pedestrian-friendly bike lines and sidewalks for those looking for some great exercise. Plus, there is a free trolley providing another fun mode of transportation. Our Skyway Express, setup very similar to the monorail at Disney World, also connects travelers throughout Downtown for the low price of 35 cents! Some of the best attractions downtown include: The Jacksonville Landing (www.jacksonvillelanding.com), home to shopping, restaurants, nightclubs and free live entertainment every weekend in the riverfront courtyard. Next door sits the Times-Union Center for the Performing Arts -- home to the Jacksonville Symphony (www.jaxsymphony.org) and our FCCJ Artist Series (artistsseries.fccj.org) featuring on- and off-Broadway shows throughout the year. The Florida Theatre (www.floridatheatre.com) just two blocks from the riverfront is home to over 200 cultural events annually and is filled with history.
