we recently stayed at a resort near the port of puerto morales. We took the local public bus which only cost us $2.50 to get to playa del carmen. Just take public transportation..easy and cheap.

We are going to Puerto Moreles next week. Will be first time there but have been to Cancun several times. If the drivers there are anything like in Cancun I would not dream of driving. Mexico drivers are a different breed. As I remember there are not even dividing stripes between the lanes so you're not exactly sure where the lane begins and ends. Which is probably why it seemed like I could reach out and not only touch cars and trucks beside us but practacly shake hands with them. Very scary sensation to me but it's all normal to them.
