The train system is amazing. You should be able to take a short cab ride or walk to the train, and get all the way into downtown with no hassel. You can also take a train to a ball game. You're also not going to be far from Ikea or a great Mall, so explore!

Elmhurst is only about 15 miles from downtown Chicago, so I'd imagine you'd want to take advantage of the easy Metra rail link to partake of the Windy City's best entertainment on a couple of those nights. It'll take you just over 30 minutes to get to the Ogilvie Transportation Center, and trains run back to Elmhurst until just past midnight. Of course, Elmhurst also has a pleasant downtown district with plenty restaurants and bars for you to enjoy. The Elmhurst Art Museum might be worth a look, too; it's open till 8 p.m. on Wednesdays, so you can sneak a dose of high culture (late 20th-century American Art) after your training ends.
