Jekyll Island, GA is a great place to vacation. It's a State Park so there are restrictions on development. Everything is two stories or less. There is a small waterpark on one end of the island(Summer Waves). You can stay at the Jekyll Island Club (that used to be the summer vacation house for those belonging in that "club" such as Vanderbilt, Morgan, and other early 20th century tycoons that had Jekyll as a private island). Or you can stay at a hotel or beach resort or rent out a house. Very pretty w/ knarled trees w/ spanish moss, curving walkways in historic district(cute local shops), bike paths parallel to the beach. They have a resturant or two, one mini-golf place. Its not crowded. No touristy restuarants or "Wings" shops, etc. They have pier to go fishing, and part of the island is the park, where you can go camping. And you can always leave the island to go to Brunswick, GA (mainland) for dinner out, movies, etc.
