I read in our newspaper about a mining museum about 30mi. north of Atlanta, a hands-on type of place for kids. Now I cannot find article and cannot find it on the internet. Does anyone know where it is?

That is probably the Consolidated Gold Mine in Dahlonega. Take GA 400 north to Dahlonega and then follow the signs to the Walmart. The Consolidated Gold Mine is right next door. There is also a gold museum on the square in Dahlonega. It is a really cool(if small) museum dedicated to the first gold rush. Around the square are a few nice(and cheap) restaurants to eat at. If the weather is nice, The Crimson Moon Cafe has a nice balcony, as does Gabby's Cajun Cafe. In cooler weather, El Mague is good for mexican, and Caruso's(the restaurant and not the bar) has good italian. Hope that helps!

Perhaps you're thinking the Pine Mountain Gold Museum (http://www.pinemountaingoldmuseum.com), which is 35 miles west of Atlanta in Villa Rica, GA. Sounds like a fun place to take the kids!
