I take it you want to travel the Blue Ridge Parkway part of the way before heading out of the Smokies to Knoxville? That will let you cruise about 70 miles of this famous scenic highway between near Asheville, just off I-26/US-74, and the route's southern terminus near Cherokee, North Carolina. It won't get any less scenic, or faster, as continue from there on US-441 through the forested Great Smoky Mountains to Gatlinburg and then onto Knoxville. In terms of getting to Asheville, just follow I-26 all the way; it's about 250 miles, according to Google Maps. Good luck. Great time of the year to drive the Blue Ridge Parkway with all the amazing fall colors, although be prepared for leaf-peeping traffic... lots of it!
