It really depends on what kind of shopping you are looking for. If you want department and big chain stores, check out The Grove or Century City Mall. These are both huge outdoor shopping centers that have several restaurants and a movie theater. The Grove also has a trolley that could be fun for little kids.

For more unique items, check out Melrose. This area has a wide range of high and lower end boutiques. Also check out Montana and Main streets in Santa Monica for smaller clothing boutiques.

Robertson has many of the higher end designers and flagship stores.

For cheap and trendy items, walk through Santee Alley downtown, where hundreds of vendors sell knock-off purses, clothes, and accessories. This might not be the best place for a 2 yr old though, as it can get pretty crowded. If you do go, make sure you bring cash.

Well, the best shopping in my opinion would be at Ontario Mills in the city of Ontario. It's about 40+ miles from LA. It's a mall of factory outlet stores. But, that's too far from Hollywood. You can go to Hollywood & Highland Center (www.hollywoodandhighland.com). Also, you can go to Melrose Ave (http://www.melrose-avenue.com). They have alot of eclectic shops and great restaurants. For the BEST place to eat on Melrose go to Antonio's Mexican restaurant (http://www.antoniosonmelrose.com). That's the only place my mom will eat Mexican food (We're Filipino). OMG, it's the best!!! My family goes there ALL the time. The owner (Antonio - tall, slender, older gentleman) is there everyday and always greets the customers. The bartender is his son, Manny. The food is SOOO good and the margaritas are the best I've ever drunken (not watered down at all and plenty of tequila). The food is fresh, hot, affordable prices and service is great.
