I am planning a trip for next year sept. for my adult family of 6. We can not decide if we should go to tennesse or virgina. Each has it's interest. We want to get a cabin but not in the montains to far away from attractios. In our travels we would like to take a day or two to go to Washington DC. realizing we will have to drive a distance. We would also like to plan a trip for white water rafting, site seeing Willamsburg, maybe get to Dollywood. These are ideas being thrown out there. I was thinking Pigion Forge. Would this be a good in between place for all or some of things I mentioned. Were would you suggest we stay.

Gatlinburg is GRAND. Not only are the attractions in & around there great, the people are as great as the Smokey Mountains.

Hi, Tami, my gut says you'll want to go with Virginia OR Tennessee. Otherwise, you'll be doing alot of driving, especially if you're coming all the way from Wisconsin. If it's Dollywood and Pigeon Forge, then obviously look to the Smokies and Gatlinburg, where you'll find lots of outdoor options. However, given that you want to hit D.C., I'd say do that then motor down to Williamsburg and the Richmond area, where you will also find some moderate rafting on the James River. If you've got time, head over to Shenandoah National Park, where you'll find cabins, hiking, camping, waterfalls, etc. Charlottesville and Monticello are worth a stop, plus there are some decent wineries in the Shenandoah area.
