Basically, drive west to Los Angeles and hook a right on I-5 north toward San Francisco. For the scenic route, drive California Highway One up the lovely Big Sur coastline between LA and San Fran. (You never know, you might love it so much you don't even make it as far as the redwoods!) Be prepared for some driving, though, if you want to do both of these iconic national-park landscapes in the same trip!
