Hi my husband and I plan a trip to Maine and Canada in spring 2011 plan to fly to some city in maine rent a car and travel thru Maine and go to canada and take the train thru canada any suggestions no time limit one way ticket into Maine travel until we decide to return to NC then get a plane ticket back want to do the lobster bake several times. Thanks

C'mon, now you're just making us all feel jealous. No timeframe, one-way tickets... sounds heavenly! Given your flexibility, I'd say just fly into Portland, ME, and let the road take you from there. Just don't forget your passports to cross the border. From Maine, I'd probably head up over into the Canadian Maritime Provinces, where you can spend some time exploring beauty spots like Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island (assuming you can linger until the warmer spring/summer months!). Then, drop your car in Halifax and hop the Canada Rail service through Quebec, Montreal, and Toronto. Hey, you could just keep going all the way to the Rockies and Vancouver! (Though I'd skip the pancake-flat prairies and fly straight to Calgary or Edmonton to pick up the train once things get interesting again!)
