Unfortunately, there are gnats and sand fleas in many tropical locations and the Virgin Islands are no exception. Many of the insects come out in the evening because they don't do well with heat. While they are present year-round, there are a couple of things you can do to keep irritation to a minimum:

Avoid wearing anything scented when you go outside

Wear long-sleeved shirts and pants when going out for the evening
