Hi Carolyn, just so happens that Kentucky has the country's largest developed state-park system, with 17 "resort" parks that are packed with great outdoor activities for the kids to enjoy. Lake Cumberland State Resort Park, near Jamestown, KY, offers a 63-room lodge, camping, and cabins alongside a lake offering fishing and on-shore fun like hiking, horseback riding, disc golf, as well as indoor and outdoor (in season) swimming. A little further east, you might also consider Natural Bridge Resort Park, from where you can explore beautiful Red River Gorge. Or take a look at Cumberland Falls Resort State Park, where you'll enjoy gem prospecting, horseback rides, and river rafting on the Cumberland River (obviously, in season, so check ahead depending on your travel dates).
