Four days in Buenos Aires, what should we do?

We're spending 4 days in Buenos Aires and want to experience the local culture and scenery. We DO NOT want to shop or only do tourist things. What are the things we should not miss? Are there any volunteer opportunities that you know of that we can participate in?

BA is broken up into neighborhoods. A few 'must sees' include: La Boca is the area around Boca Juniors soccer stadium. It's a bit touristy, but a tour of the stadium gives you an idea of how important soccer/football is to the culture. Recoleta is the old money area of the city. The cemetery there is definitely worth seeing. Also, the 'Casa Rosada' in the city center is worth a stop. It's centrally located, but be careful of pick-pockets. We did a bike tour that took us through a few neighborhoods. It did a great job of giving us bearings of where everything was.

Pete's suggestions above are all good ones. Most of these destinations are covered in the Urban Adventures program if you wanted to go to those places with a local to explain the significance of what you are seeing and experiencing from a local's perspective.
